The homeowners embarked on this solar journey with a clear objective: to curtail their electricity expenses, a concern amplified by having renters in the property.

Given the house’s elevated design, it naturally emerged as a prime candidate for solar installation, benefiting from virtually no shading.

Financial Overview

Before solar, this family was paying about $200 a month for power. After the installation, their bills dropped to under $100 – and that’s before factoring in extra savings from programs like the Alberta Solar Club. Over time, that adds up to thousands of dollars back in their pocket.

This project wasn’t without its challenges. The home sits on a steep 12/12 pitch roof, and we had to deal with a fresh layer of snow just before install. Luckily, a chinook rolled through (something Calgary and Cochrane homeowners know well), which helped clear the site. With an experienced crew and the right safety gear, we got the system in place without a hitch and left the customer with a clean, future-proof solar setup.

Installation Details

For this job we went with Longi 375W panels and APS microinverters. The setup came out to 19 modules in total, giving the place just over 7kW of solar power. On paper it looks simple, but installs on steep roofs like this take extra time and a good bit of planning to keep things safe and tidy. In the end, the system went in smooth and sits clean on the roof without looking out of place.
