About Panel Upgrade Experts
Panel Upgrade Experts is a Calgary residential electrical company founded in 2013 by Paul Hannania. We specialize in electrical panel upgrades and solar panel installation, and have completed over 1,000 panel upgrades for Calgary homeowners since opening.
Paul is a second generation electrician who began his apprenticeship under his father in England at 17. He worked in the electrical trade in the UK for a decade before relocating to Calgary, earning his Red Seal certification and founding Panel Upgrade Experts in 2013. He brings over 25 years of hands-on electrical experience to every job. Every installation at Panel Upgrade Experts is completed under Master Electrician (CME/RME) oversight.
In 2015, Global News interviewed Paul during the ENMAX power outage in Calgary, citing his expertise on what the outage meant for the city’s electrical infrastructure. That same year, Panel Upgrade Experts became one of Calgary’s earliest certified EV charger installers, completing more Tesla home charger installations than any other contractor in the city at the time.
In 2018, Paul competed in the Ideal National Championship, a North American skills competition drawing nearly 40,000 electricians. He won fastest professional electrician for Canada West, advancing further than any other Canadian competitor that year. In 2019, Paul was selected to represent Canada as the international competitor. Two consecutive years on that stage is a distinction no other Calgary electrician holds.
Panel Upgrade Experts has been featured in Electrical Industry News Week and the Calgary Guardian, and Paul has contributed expert commentary to Green Building Canada on residential solar adoption in Alberta.

In 2015, Global News reached out to Paul Hannania for expert commentary during a significant ENMAX power outage affecting Calgary. As one of the city’s most experienced residential electricians at the time, Paul was asked to explain what a large-scale utility outage means for Calgary homeowners, how it affects electrical panels, what residents should and should not do during an outage, and what the incident revealed about the demands being placed on Calgary’s aging electrical infrastructure.
It was an early signal of something Paul had already been seeing on the job: Calgary homes built decades ago were not designed for modern electrical loads, and the gap between what those systems were built for and what homeowners now demand from them was growing. Panel upgrades were no longer optional maintenance, they were becoming a practical necessity.
