Project Overview
This 14.5 kW solar system was installed for a homeowner in Dalhousie, Calgary (NW). The array is split between the main house and a detached garage, making full use of available roof space. The homeowner, referred to us by a past solar and EV customer, wanted to cut down on rising power bills from a hot tub and other household loads. With the Greener Homes Grant and loan program, the project made strong financial sense from day one.
Installation Details
- System Size: 14.5 kW
- Modules: Longi 405W premium solar panels
- Inverters: APS DS3S microinverters with monitoring
- Roof Type: New asphalt shingle roof on the house; cedar shingle roof on the garage, requiring additional care during installation
- Extras: APS monitoring app for real-time performance tracking
- Annual Output: Predicted 16,532 kWh in the first year
Alongside the solar system, we upgraded the home’s electrical panel, preparing for a future 200 amp underground service upgrade. This ensures the system is ready for additional loads like EV charging or further electrification.
Financial Overview
The homeowner qualified for both the
Canada Greener Homes Grant and loan, helping offset upfront costs. With an estimated annual production of over 16,500 kWh, the system is projected to provide significant savings, especially with higher-than-average household consumption from hot tub use.
